Patient Visit

imageThe Regional Joint Assessment Centre helps people with hip and knee joint problems. There are two clinic locations: Thunder Bay and Dryden. You may choose the most convenient location.

What is really exciting about the program is that it provides "one stop shopping" for patients. Not only are patients physically assessed, they also receive education on weight management, joint maintenance, referrals for physiotherapy and aquatic programs, education on community resources and services and education on lifestyle changes. Some of these people will require joint replacement surgery and will then go on to see an Orthopaedic surgeon of their choice or a surgeon with the shortest wait list.

Who will see me ?

You will be seen by members of the health care team:

  • Physiotherapist - Advanced Practice
  • Orthopaedic Surgeon - as required

What will happen when I get there?

Members of the team will:

  • review your medical history
  • ask you some questions about your health
  • ask you to complete some tests to see how well you can move your hip or knee and what causes your pain.
  • discuss treatment options and come up with a plan to help you.

What to bring with you:

  • Your health card
  • A list from your pharmacy of all the medications that you take
  • A list of all herbal, over the counter medications and vitamins you take
  • One friend or family member that will be able to help you with all the information that you will be given

The team will discuss treatment options that may help you and then come up with a plan for you.

To all patients

Please wear comfortable shoes and loose fitting comfortable clothes with no metal clips, zippers or snaps. Plan to spend about 1 hour at your appointment.
